My fiancé Andrea commutes to the peninsula a few times a week and listens to 101.7 KKIQ for their frequent traffic updates and music. I’m more of a Live 105 guy, but who’s judging right? 🙂
She tells me that KKIQ has been advertising about the grand opening for a new ice rink in Livermore called Tri-Valley Ice.
Being all nonchalant-like I said, “Yeah, I know.”
Yeah, right. My alternative-rock butt did’t know squat.
Of course I kept cool and said, “We should go check it out, I’ve been hearing all about it on the radio.”
As cool as I try to be, Andrea, with a raised eyebrow sees right through my charade – yet still agrees to come with me to check them out. It is located just of Vasco Road at 6611 Preston Ave and is Livermore’s first ice rink. Before they opened up, Dublin and Fremont were our closest options.
They have two ice ponds which appear to be about 1/3rd the size of a professional ice rink. This is ideal for kids or 3-on-3 adult hockey leagues which they seem to cater to.
For casual skaters (or a cheap date!), they have public sessions on Friday’s from 4:30pm to 7pm, Saturdays from 2pm to 5pm and also 6:30pm to 9:30pm. At only $9.50 per person, that’s great deal even with the added $2.50 skate rentals.
Their website, TriValleyIce.com has a little more info on the various programs they offer but didn’t have much regarding prices and such. Hopefully they’ll update it with more info, photos and maybe add their snack bar menu too. I mention this because in addition to coffee and great food, they also have 4 taps serving local brews from Livermore’s very own Altamont Beer Works!
If you’re interested in hitting the ice for yourself, your kids, or an inexpensive date, it’s definitely worth stopping by.
