The Plaza Bistro

Sonoma, CA 95476
Sonoma is one of my favorite getaways, less than a two hour drive and a considerably shorter flight from Livermore. Because I belong to a wine club and quarterly they make available several bottles of their finest to club members I find myself traveling to Sonoma often for a pick up.
A few weeks ago my wife and I were on our way again. It was such a nice day and since we wanted to have a glass or two of wine, we took the BMW rather than fly to Sonoma. It is such a treat to cruise into the wine country with the top down and savor the fresh air and the colors of the vegetation along the two lane road to Sonoma. Especially in late summer, after harvest, you can smell the fermentation process. It’s an odor that I personally find enjoyable.
There are plenty of places to eat in and around the town square, I have written about several over the last couple of years. The Plaza Bistro is one of those eateries in a historic building on the Square in downtown Sonoma. The Bistro is just the kind of place I like, white table cloths, quiet, good wine selection, good food, and most of all attentive service.
My wife had the Grilled Vegetable sandwich with fries and I had the Classic Caesar salad with grilled chicken. There was so much chicken on my salad what I don’t think it qualified as a salad anymore, see the picture, you be the judge! Of course, being that we were in Sonoma, what would lunch be without a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc? I must confess that our bottle of wine was imported from New Zealand (rather than a local); but it is one of my wife’s favorites.
So, my recommendation is for you to take that special person away for the day, preferably during the week, and get away to Sonoma. It certainly won’t do your relationship any harm ;).
