They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Is that really true? I’m not sure as it’s the subject of an endless debate. What I do know is that I love my bacon and eggs.

If you’re looking for a good traditional breakfast that won’t break the bank, Country Waffles is the place to go. There are two locations in Livermore: One next to Lucky’s at Concannon and Holmes, the other on North Vasco right off 580. The Vasco location is on my side of town and is stop #19 of The Great Livermore Restaurant Challenge.

Country Waffles closest competitor is probably IHOP. While IHOP has a more “international” menu with 7-8 varieties of everything they offer, Country Waffles has a more traditional American breakfast menu. It’s what you’d expect at a diner in, well, the country.

While the food and service are good, the best thing about this place is what you can get for 6 bucks. On this visit there were three of us where we all had one of the specials. Our total bill, including drinks and tax came to $25.78. That’s a great deal for three breakfast plates.

We all had similar meals but I went for the French Toast with Scrambled Eggs and Sausage which really hit the spot. I’ve been here several times and have yet to try their waffles, which I hear is their bread and butter. Later on during my challenge, when I hit their other location across town, I’ll be sure and get their Cinnamon Apple Country Waffles.

I shouldn’t write these reviews when I’m hungry because that sounds really good right now. Actually, I just took a peek into my wallet and only have a ten-dollar bill in there (the lint doesn’t count). I think I just might head over and try those waffles… so stay tuned.

Anyway, if you’re looking for a traditional American breakfast, Country Waffles is a great place to go – especially for the price.
